No, as usual, we're keeping our heads in the books after the chastisement the House received at the beginning of the semester. We are lucky to still have our IP addresses.

Getting ready for the Halloween Party at the Panthera House and plugging away on the degrees.

Also, I did get server space on the DB and a license for SQLserver10. (And I was giddy when I got the license - I'm a sick, sick IT geek. Wink )

Where were you tagging? Because I heard the bats around here are actually real vampire bats like the kind they're only supposed to have in *south* america because they escaped when a research facility burned down. Like the feral parrots on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco, only creepier.   Shocked

Lee,

   We were about an hour north of here where there are some old caves that the bats are staying in.  I don't know about vampire bats, but what I can say is that what we found were strange bats,  they didn't behave like insectivores or frugivores.  My professor was weird about it and he seemed shocked. Desmodus draculae hasn't existed in the Americas since the Pleistocene.  The regular Desmodus only comes up into Mexico and we are crazy north to have them around.  Don't know, but I spent a lot of time mist netting bats down south and I haven't seen any this big before.  This just might be my inexperience with this area though, obviously a good scientist knows you're always learning.  We tagged but didn't keep specimens, hoping maybe we will go back soon so I can get a better look.  Got to find a quieter place to study than the stacks.  Constant chatter coming from tables where "studying" was supposedly taking place and my roommate has our apartment full of specimens for comparative anatomy.  Constant talk about the attempted B&E and all I needed was a little time to work on my field note book and my botany dichotomous key.  Glad it's the weekend.
